The Ford Flex Coolant Reservoir is specifically positioned to be integrated with the radiator and contains moulded graduations for measuring the coolant level. Ford Flex vehicles depend on the model either on the overflow tank system or the expansion tank system both of which are developed to offer efficient coolant expansion and contraction. Ford Flex Coolant Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What does the coolant reservoir service involve and what precautions should be taken based on the build date on Ford Flex?
    A:
The service operation of the coolant reservoir includes the degas bottle so the maintenance steps depend on the vehicle manufacturing date. Vehicles created before January 19, 2009 are designed to use Motorcraft® Premium Gold Engine Coolant while newer vehicles from that date forward need Motorcraft® Specialty Green Engine Coolant and the combination of the two types will worsen corrosion protection and might harm the engine and cooling system. The cooling system should never be opened before engine temperature drops because pressurized steam and hot liquid can result in severe personal injuries. Start by detaching pressure from the cooling system through one half counterclockwise turn on the pressure relief cap before removing the cap. Hose clamp pliers should be used to secure the lower degas bottle hose for coolant siphoning with a suitable suction device. First detach the pin-type retainer before disconnecting the upper and lower degas bottle hoses to separate the Power Steering Reservoir from the degas bottle. The degas bottle holding mechanism requires removal of two bolts. The installation requires following the removal steps in reverse order while securing bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). After adding the correct coolant mixture into the degas bottle you must verify that the fluid reaches the correct amount.
