How to remove and replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on Ford Flex?

The first step in removing and replacing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) begins with retrieving the module configuration through proper execution of the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) procedure steps for module configuration retrieval. Start by taking off the cowl panel grille followed by a disconnect of the three PCM electrical connectors. First loosen the PCM by removing the two nuts then pull out the module from its place. Position the PCM before fastening it with two nuts which need to be tightened to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The cowl panel grille can be replaced after reconnecting the three PCM electrical connectors. The module configuration requires restoration after installation through execution of the PMI procedure's configuration restoration steps. Complete the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) programming through executing the Parameter Reset procedure.
