This part known as the Knock Sensor is one amongst the most important parts that speaks volume of the Ford Flex line up vehicle. Its purpose is to recognize the phenomenon known as engine knock, improper ignition timing, and contributes to engine efficiency and safety as a Knock Sensor. Through sending real-time signals to the powertrain control module (PCM), it allows for dynamic control for ignition timing thus reduces the probability of spoiling the engine and improve general performance. This piezoelectric sensor continually feeds back on vibrations to make sure that the Ford Flex does not vibrate or create any discomforting sounds while in use, even when the engine is run on low octane fuels. Being able to sync with any type of Ford Flex model, standard, mid and up the SEL and Limited, it is a standard feature across the board. The Knock Sensor not only increases the fuel economy but also helps in increasing the vehicle's life by reducing excessive detonation. Also, newer types of the Knock Sensor can be programmed to vary the timing for each cylinder, to optimize it. The Knock Sensor is therefore remarkable when it comes to its design and performances to fit the complexities of the market making the Ford Flex even more a reliable vehicle. In summary, buying the Knock Sensor makes a lot of sense to any drivers that wants an efficient and safer drive in their Ford Flex and therefore, the Knock Sensor is a stand out feature in the SUV market today.

Ford Flex Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Knock Sensor (KS) on Ford Flex?
    A:
The Knock Sensor service starts with removing the thermostat housing before taking out the lower Intake Manifold and coolant tube while discarding the O-ring seal. Disable the KS electrical connector before removing the two bolts that fasten the KS. Before installing the new KS users should tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (177 lb-in) and apply clean engine coolant to the new O-ring seal. To finish the installation worked in the opposite direction of the removal steps. The coolant requirements differ between vehicles made before (Motorcraft® Premium Gold Engine Coolant) and after (Motorcraft® Specialty Green Engine Coolant) January 19, 2009 because their mixture can reduce anti-corrosion protection and harm engine and cooling system components.
