Ford Flex Thermostat Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on Ford Flex?
A: You should start by draining the cooling system for thermostat servicing. First remove the outlet pipe from the Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly before unthreading the two housing cover bolts. Both parts should be reserved for later reinstallation while the cover bolts should be tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). After removing both the O-ring seal and thermostat check their conditions then use a new replacement O-ring for the inspection. Before January 19, 2009 vehicles require Motorcraft® Premium Gold while vehicles built as of this date need Motorcraft® Specialty Green Engine Coolant yet their different compositions would create corrosion issues potentially harming the engine or cooling system. O-ring seal on the new thermostat requires engine coolant lubrication which must be applied before reinstalling through reverse order of removal. The service requires you to fill and bleed the cooling system for completion.
