How to service and repair the shift cable on Ford Freestar?

In order to fix the shift cable, set the gearshift in (D) and pull the cable out of the steering column and shift assembly. Eliminate the air inlet cover, then the current shift cable and bracket. Undo and re-tdress the procedure and re-adjust the cable and replace air inlet cover.
