  Q: How to Service and Repair the A/C Expansion Valve on Ford Freestyle?

  A: Recovery of refrigerant should start all processes for servicing or repairing the A/C expansion valve. Tighten all four roll restrictor cross beam bolts to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) before installation while performing the service and repair of the A/C expansion valve. Fasten the roll restrictor bracket bolt at 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) when reinstalling it. Install the new A/C expansion valve manifold bolt by discarding old O-ring seals while tightening it at 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Install the new A/C expansion valve bolts after their removal by securing them to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque specification. Follow the removal process in reverse to install the A/C expansion valve by using new O-ring seals and performing proper PAG oil lubrication of the refrigerant system. Evacuation that includes leak detection and refrigerant system charging represents the final step. The installation of a new receiver/drier requires physical contamination evidence from a failed A/C compressor or damaged receiver/drier condition.
