Ford Mustang Thermostat Housing Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to properly maintain the Thermostat Housing on a 4.0L SOHC engine in a Ford Mustang?
A: The first step to work on a 4.0L SOHC engine thermostat housing requires complete cooling system drainage. Disconnect both the air cleaner outlet pipe as well as the Throttle Body for service. The technician must disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector followed by removal of the upper radiator hose and heater inlet hose and bypass hose from the thermostat housing. Move these components to the side. The three lower bolts securing the thermostat housing should be removed for housing replacement while installation requires tightening to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). To complete the service conclude the procedure by filling the cooling system and bleaching it properly.
