When servicing the fuel rail users must stay smoke-free and flame-free from fuel components because the system contains flammable mixtures. You should first relieve system pressure to stop fuel spraying before you disconnect the ground cable from the battery. The procedure starts with removal of upper intake manifold while the technician also removes the fuel tube routing clips from the fuel rail. The first step involves removing fuel tube-to-fuel rail spring lock coupling and the six
Fuel Injector electrical connectors. Use a socket to remove the four fuel rail bolts to safely pull out the fuel rail combined with injectors as one unit. The twelve fuel injector O-ring seals must be discarded but new special fuel-resistant material O-rings should replace them because ordinary O-rings cannot prevent leaks. The O-ring seals for the top and bottom of the fuel rail assembly cannot be interchanged with each other. Before placing the six fuel injectors and their clips inside the fuel rail use clean engine oil to lubricate the new O-ring seals. The reinstallation of the fuel rail along with injectors as a single unit requires a torque of 10 Nm (89 lb-in) on its four securing bolts. Attach the six fuel injector electrical connectors followed by connecting the fuel tube-to-fuel rail spring lock coupling and then install the fuel tube routing clips to the fuel rail. As the final step install the upper intake manifold while restoring the battery ground cable connection.
