Battery Cable in Ford Thunderbird are some of the parts of the vehicle that enable the flow of electrical current from the battery to power such items in the vehicle as the starter for igniting the engine. Eventually they become problematic, they can have things like hard starting or no start at all with the cables. Areas such as corrosion, heat or 'hot spots', oxidation, fatigue and old age affects the service delivery of the battery cables. To make it possible to achieve a reliable engine start-up, then the battery cables have to be inspected and changed when they have outlived their useful life.

Ford Thunderbird Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on Ford Thunderbird?
    A:
Disconnection of the battery marks the starting point for fixing battery cables. Service technicians should remove the ground cable bolt and both ground cable locators before taking off the ground cable. Afterwards, reattach the bolt with a torque setting of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). To install the rear positive battery cable you should remove the rear BJB cable assembly nut and cable end while tightening the nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Position the positive battery cable in an accessible slot of the luggage compartment after releasing it from the two conduit locations and two package tray locations. To remove the bulkhead positive battery cable in the engine compartment start by unscrewing the nut cover followed by disconnecting the bulkhead positive battery cable nut and cable end while tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) tension. Separate the electrical connector and unscrew the body ground cable bolt then place the body ground cable lead to the side before tightening the bolt to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) when reinstalling. The process of harness bracket removal requires two screws to be loose and replacement includes tightening them to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). Start with vacuuming both the starter ground cable nut and end then secure the nut with 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) torque before proceeding to vacuum the starter solenoid positive cable nut and end, requiring 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque. Loosen the starter solenoid wire cable nut and end before tightening the connection to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). After that, remove the generator B+ cable harness locator along with the generator itself. First position the generator B+ cover aside then remove the generator B+ cable nut and end. During installation tighten the nut to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Complete the removal process by following the reverse installation steps after taking off both the engine compartment positive and ground cable assembly.
