How to service and repair the tailgate latch remote control on Lincoln Mark LT?

Begin servicing the remote control by first opening the tailgate before supporting it. The tailgate access panel needs all 8 screws removed before installation where you should tighten them to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Start by opening both clips that allow the removal of the 2 tailgate latch actuating rods from the tailgate remote control then disconnect the 2 tailgate latch actuating rod locators on the tailgate. The procedure for reinstallation begins after you remove the 2 retaining nuts from the tailgate remote control but requires nut tightening to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). End the assembly work by undoing the steps of removal in reverse order.
