A proper installation of new silicone sealant starts with clean machined surfaces on both rear axle housing and differential housing cover while protecting the rear axle interior from contamination. Direct your attention to the differential vent on the rear cover to ensure it stays open along with inspecting the gasket mating areas on the differential housing and cover before cleaning them. The differential housing cover must receive installation within 15 minutes of silicone application or professionals must reapply new sealant. A one-hour waiting period before lubricant fill should be used to guarantee complete silicone sealant curing. Use clear silicone rubber to create a continuous bead and put on the differential housing cover which requires installation of all 10 bolts at 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs).
