Lincoln MKZ Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Cable for the 6-Speed and FNR5 Transaxles on Lincoln MKZ?
A: The process of dictating the selector lever cable for 6-speed and FNR5 transaxles starts with removing the Heater Core and evaporator core housing and then the restraint control module (RCM). A worker must first remove the battery tray on 6-speed cars then disconnect the selector lever cable end from the manual control lever last they have to let go of the two tabs to extract the selector lever cable from its bracket. The manual control lever cable end of the FNR5 transaxle requires disconnection before releasing the two tabs to free the cable from its bracket. Detach the two wiring harness fasteners before setting the RCM wiring harness to the side. The installation blanket should be moved away from the bulkhead to access the two selector lever cable bracket nuts. The removal of these nuts and grommets will allow the selector lever cable to be extracted through the interior of the vehicle. The selector lever cable gets installed after placing it correctly in its position and securing it with its two nuts which should be tightened to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Reinstall the RCM wiring harness with its fasteners after putting back the insulation blanket covering the grommet. The cable installation requires the locking tabs to be engaged together with the ball stud insertion into the bracket bracket until the click sound can be heard. The cable lock must be examined after pulling back on it before attaching the selector lever cable end to the manual lever. Finish the repair by installing the battery and its tray followed by the RCM and lastly the heater core and evaporator core housing while adjusting the selector lever cable if required.
