- Q: How to remove and install the oil pump in V6 engine on Lincoln MKX?A:Drain the oil and remove the oil filter. Remove the timing chain cover and then the oil pan. For 2.7L engines, slowly rotate the oil pump drive chain tensioner counterclockwise until a small drill bit or Allen wrench can be inserted through both holes in the tensioner, locking it against the spring. Remove the four oil pump mounting bolts while supporting the rear of the pump, then slowly lower the rear of the oil pump until the oil pump sprocket can be lifted out of the chain and from the vehicle. Before installing the oil pump, pour a couple of tablespoons of engine oil into the pump and rotate the pump sprocket by hand to prime it. Place the sprocket back onto the pump into the chain, then raise the rear of the pump and install the mounting bolts, tightening them evenly to the specified torque. The remaining installation is the reverse of removal. For 3.5L and 3.7L engines, remove the primary timing chain, slide the crankshaft sprocket from the crankshaft, and remove the two fasteners to take out the oil pump pickup and screen assembly. Remove the three oil pump mounting bolts and take out the oil pump. Install the oil pump, then reinstall the oil pump pickup tube and screen with a new O-ring. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Fill the engine with fresh engine oil and install a new oil filter, then start the engine and check for leaks.
