The first step when servicing the automatic transmission shifter requires safety precautions including the depletion of back up power through battery ground cable removal and waiting one minute with the removal of any auxiliary batteries if present due to potential fatal air bag deployment risks. After opening the screw on the bottom steering column a person should push the parking brake release handle to the side and remove the second screw before pulling on the panel to release retaining clips. You must first remove the panel reinforcement screws located on the lower steering column opening finish then detach the lower steering column shroud through unplugging its four screws. Beginning with upper steering column shroud removal leads to disconnecting the transmission control switch (TCS) harness connector. Remove the TCS harness from all its locators while separating the selector lever cover from the steerig column. The selector lever failure prevention requires discarding the old selector lever pin before you remove both the selector lever pin and the selector lever. Reverse all procedures which were performed during uninstallation to finish the assembly process.
