The automatic transmission shifter servicing and repair process starts with removing the ignition switch lock cylinder together with the upper steering column shroud. The technician must first disconnect the electrical connector from the transmission range selector lever followed by removing and throwing away the selector lever pin before extracting the selector lever. The new selector lever installation requires replacement of the selector lever pin because it needs replacement whenever removal occurs and returns to the original order of steps for completion of the installation.

The repair process for the automatic transmission shifter starts with a safety step which involves draining the back up power until air bags stop activating automatically. The battery ground cable needs disconnection followed by waiting at least one minute before handling additional auxiliary batteries that exist. To access the lower steering column opening start by removing the screw from the panel along with shifting the parking brake release handle before unscrewing the panel and grasping it to remove retaining clips. The procedure requires uninstalling five screws which maintain the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement before you can remove four screws from the instrument panel reinforcement brace. You should position the selector lever indicator cable away by unscrewing its attachment and disconnecting it. Start the ignition switch lock cylinder removal process by first pushing release pin while rotating the component to RUN position then pulling it free from its place. Perform the lower steering column shroud dismantling by taking out four screws and then using the four nuts to lower the column. The upper steering column shroud must come off followed by unharnessing the transmission control switch (TCS) connection. The TCS harness must be dismantled from both locators before the gearshift lever cover is divided from the steering column. Every installer needs to throw away the former gearshift lever pin before they remove both the gearshift lever pieces. After finishing the installation process follow all the steps you used to remove the parts in the opposite order.

Rotate it to the RUN position, press the lock cylinder release pin, and pull it out.

Take out the screw, move the parking brake release handle aside, remove the screw from the panel, and pull outward to release the retaining clips.

Follow the removal procedure in reverse order for reinstallation.

Remove the five screws securing the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement, followed by the four screws of the instrument panel reinforcement brace.

Remove the two shift handle retaining screws and take out the shift handle.
