- Q: How to Service the Tail Pipe and Muffler on Lincoln Town Car?A: Before servicing the muffler and tailpipe power must be disconnected from the Air Suspension to eliminate unexpected events involving air springs because vehicle shifts during operations could result in serious injury. Place the neutral-gear vehicle onto a hoist for servicing operations. Starting by removing two nuts, an exhaust damper when present and a clamp uniting exhaust inlet to muffler. Then cut the designated area of the tailpipe before disassembling isolators to remove the tailpipe with the muffler. Vehicle operators should inspect isolators prior to installation to verify their condition and replace them when necessary. Proceed with tailpipe installation alongside its attachment point for the isolator and afterwards install the muffler using its own isolator. All components need to be completely installed before tightening new exhaust fasteners. Alternate tightness of these fasteners to specifications until the flanges show an even draw with a torque of 33 Nm (24 lb-ft). Secure the exhaust inlet pipe through the muffler by installing the clamp and exhaust damper if present along with two nuts that need tightness to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). After completing the process conclude by engaging the air suspension switch.
