How to service and repair the battery cable on Mercury Cougar?

You should first remove the engine air cleaner before starting battery cable service work. Then disconnect the battery cables from their contact points. The repair of air bag components must wait until the back up energy exhausts after disconnecting the ground cable for the battery followed by the positive cable while waiting one minute for safety. The service begins with removing the battery cable terminals from distributor plates and placing the starter solenoid electrical connector and battery cable at the battery tray before cutting the cable tie if needed. The ground cable must be separated from the transaxle housing while the positive battery cable should be detached from engine wiring harness after cable tie removal.
