Mercury Marauder Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid for the Column Shifter on Mercury Marauder?
A: Service and repair of the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator for column shift requires first emptying back up power to stop unintended air bag activation. Empty the ground cable from the battery while waiting for at least one minute before removing any auxiliary batteries connected to the electrical system. Starting with screw removal from the lower steering column opening finish panel will expose the parking brake release handle for motion clearance. Afterward separate the screw from the panel and extend it outward to remove retaining clips. Within the next step you should unscrew the five holding screws that secure both the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement and the instrument panel reinforcement brace. Loosen and disconnect the selector lever indicator cable by taking out its screw so you can position it to the side. You can lower the steering column after removing the four nuts before separating the shift lock actuator and transmission shift selector position insert from the steering column by removing three bolts. You need to disconnect the electrical connector before completely removing the shift lock actuator together with the transmission shift selector position insert. When finishing the installation return to the procedure of removing the components in reverse order.
