How to Service the Rear Door Latch Assembly on Mercury Milan?

Service of the rear door latch starts with exterior rear door handle removal followed by the sequence of rear door window regulator motor and then window glass removal. The procedure to unpack the three rear door latch bolts includes tightening them to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) during reinstallation. Unscrew the exterior rear door handle reinforcement screw until it becomes loose for sliding it out while simultaneously pulling the rear door latch together with the exterior rear door handle reinforcement toward the front of the vehicle. Proceed with the removal of three screws together with the rear door latch bracket if needed while also taking out the exterior rear door handle actuating rod when needed. Lubrication of the rear door latch to striker surfaces becomes necessary before finishing the installation process.
