Mercury Monterey Oil Cooler Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Functioning of the Oil Cooler to Avoid Engine Failure on a Mercury Monterey?
A: Cleansing procedures are necessary during oil cooler servicing and maintenance because contaminating particles that infiltrate oil or coolant channels would cause engine breakdown. The first step involves placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL position on a hoist and conducting a cooling system drain. Detach the quick disconnect oil cooler coolant tubes before you eliminate the oil filter and dispose of it. The next step should involve removing the mounting bolt of the oil cooler. The presence of metal or aluminum foreign material in the oil cooler indicates the need to diagnose mechanical problems through cooling system examination. The oil cooler and tube assembly passes inspection before you reinstall them while tightening the mounting bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). Place the new oil filter on the housing while applying clean engine oil to its seal and then tighten it 1/2 turn after the gasket touches the sealing surface. After reconnecting both quick disconnect tubes then proceed to fill the cooling system and perform a bleed process.
