Service and repair operations on the harmonic balancer along with the crankshaft pulley begin by installing the vehicle onto a hoist set in NEUTRAL. The maintenance work starts by taking off both fan shroud and accessory drive belt. Because the crankshaft pulley bolt features torque-to-yield design you should use a Strap Wrench to hold the crankshaft pulley when removing the bolt but it cannot be reused. The tool will encounter bottoming-out damage to the pulley without a pulley bolt installed. Therefore, install the crankshaft pulley bolt with 2 to 3 turns of rotation. The crankshaft pulley extraction requires two Crankshaft Vibration Damper Removers and two 8-mm bolts to complete the procedure along with the discarding of the crankshaft pulley bolt. The Crankshaft Vibration Damper Installer will be used for correctly installing the new crankshaft pulley. The Strap Wrench should maintain its grip on the crankshaft pulley as you install fresh bolts which require the first application of torque at 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) before proceeding with an 85-degree tightening. The last task involves installing both the accessory drive belt and the fan shroud after completion.
