The first step to work on the column shift automatic transmission shift levers involves taking off the key release lever and ignition switch lock cylinder. First, secure the lower instrument panel covering with its screws, then uninstall the upper and lower steering column shrouds (3530). The service and repair of the column shift automatic transmission shift levers require removal of the transaxle range selector lever pin and transaxle range selector lever, the steering column opening weather seal (3513), and the transaxle range selector lever clip. To mount the transaxle range selector lever, begin with attaching the transaxle range selector lever clip; afterward, place the steering column opening weather seal on the transaxle range selector lever. The selector lever requires installation alongside its pin by tapping the pin until the head meets the transmission column shift selector tube (7212) while making the Tinnerman nut visible through the bottom of the tube. Install the steering column opening weather seal first, then put back the upper and lower steering column shrouds into their positions. To conclude the reinstallation, secure the lower instrument panel cover with screws, then place back the ignition switch lock cylinder followed by attaching the key release lever.
