Brake fluid management is critical during Electronic Brake Control Module repairs of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module because polyglycol ethers and polyglycols present in the fluid can result in eye irritation and require immediate attention involving water flushing of eyes for 15 minutes followed by medical assistance if irritation continues. The consumer should drink water followed by vomiting induction if they eat any contaminated substance and must request urgent medical intervention. Any leakage from brake fluid needs immediate cleaning with water because the fluid causes harm to painted surfaces and plastics. The ABS module becomes vulnerable to electrical discharge which can result in harm to the device when it is exposed. Specific configuration procedures using vehicle-based built data must be completed before installing and calibrating a new ABS module. The first step starts by removing the hydraulic control unit followed by unscrewing the three ABS screws before installation where torque should be set to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.). The installed ABS module requires reinstallation by performing its removal process in reverse order.

The screws should be tightened to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.).

It must be calibrated and configured using the vehicle's as-built data.

Remove the HCU-to-master cylinder brake tube fittings and tighten them to the same specification upon installation.
