To replace the desiccant cartridge during A/C accumulator servicing, you need to check for physical signs of contamination that stem from an A/C compressor failure or cartridge structural damage. The A/C accumulator becomes contaminated by moisture exclusively when refrigerant losses reach total levels and system pressures equalize with atmospheric pressure for longer than one hour. The A/C accumulator desiccant cartridge should stay where it is when the system still contains positive refrigerant pressure before maintenance work. The first step involves eliminating the condenser core from service. Start by first removing the plastic accumulator cap through unscrewing and then detach the accumulator plug using the same procedure. The snap ring removal needs a plug up-push while adding an M5 bolt at its center to create plug removal capability. A proper tool should be used to handle the accumulator cartridge grab handle before removing the cartridge. The installation process requires reverse following removal steps and requires application of accumulator plug O-ring seals with oil found in the accumulator.
