One must disconnect the battery ground cable as the first step to manipulate the air bag system through seat removal. When working with the Clock Spring connector disconnect your diagnostic tool prior to reconnecting its electrical wires. Then press the tool off the passenger air bag module electrical connector before final electrical connection. Prove out the system.

If side air bags are present, the passenger side air bag module connector beneath the front seat must be disconnected, and a tool 418-F470 attached. The same process applies to the driver side air bag module connector beneath the driver seat, with a tool 418-F470 attached, and the driver safety belt buckle connector receiving a tool 418-F468.

Depower the system, open and lower the glove compartment door, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the four bolts. Carefully push up through the glove box opening to release the three lower deployment door clips from the instrument panel, then push the lower end of the module out to prevent the clips from engaging again. Push down at the top of the deployment door to release the remaining clips and remove the module.

Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the clockspring connector and reconnect the electrical connector.
