    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Lower Control Arm on Lincoln LS? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin the lower control arm service by checking the vehicle is level on the ground then measuring from hub center to fender lip to set curb height. Use NEUTRAL gear to lift and take off the disc from the rear brake system. To disassemble the shock absorber assembly from the lower arm you need to remove and throw away the metal lower bolt. Driving tools that use compressed air may harm the boot component. Apply the hex-holder device to stop the bar stabilizer linkjoint from rotating during lower link nut removal. Dispose of this nut afterward. Lift the vehicle into NEUTRAL position and disconnect the lower arm by removing and discarding its lower arm-to-wheel knuckle bolt before taking off the lower arm-to-subframe bolts. Place the new lower arm onto the subframe before inserting and positioning new lower arm-to-subframe bolts and nuts that will not be tightened yet. Insert the lower arm into the wheel knuckle while tightening a new bolt and nut to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.). Stick to torque tools rather than air tools to stop damage to the boot. You can install the lower stabilizer bar link with the hex-holding tool and secure it at 35 ft. lbs (48 Nm). Use a new lower bolt to secure the shock absorber and spring assembly to the lower arm and tighten it to 133 Nm (98 feet-pounds). Position the jack stand under the suspension until the measurement between hub center and fender lip reaches the curb height target and tighten the lower arm-to-subframe bolts to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.) using both bolts. End the work by lowering the suspension then placing back the rear brake disc while the jack stand stays put.
