Battery Cable

Service of battery cables begins by removing the battery before proceeding. The next procedure requires removing the nut and setting aside the eyelet of the battery ground cable before tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) upon reinstallation. After removal of the nut position the generator cable and BJB terminals aside before tightening them to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) during reinstallation. Take the starter solenoid wire in-line connector together with the two harness locators away from the frame. The battery cable lower bracket needs its nut removed to position it aside, following a tightening torque of 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) for 4.6L applications and 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) for pre-September 2005-made 5.4L and 6.8L engines or 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) for post-September 2005-made 5.4L and 6.8L engines. The transmission cooler line clip must be detached from the battery cable lower bracket prior to starter solenoid terminal cover and seller negative cable removal. Unscrew and placementside the starter solenoid positive cable which should be torque-tightly fastened at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) during its reinstallation. Replace the nut by positioning the starter solenoid wire terminal to a side before tightening it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Follow the removal of the nut by safely placing the battery ground cable terminal until taking this step to tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). To complete reinstall the battery cable assembly follow the reverse steps of removal.

First remove the battery before starting the battery cable service and repair process. The next step involves unfastening the nut from the battery ground cable eyelet while keeping it safe until reinstallation where you should tighten it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). After removing the nut and generator cable terminals and BJB terminals you should position them aside by tightening them to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) during installation. First detach the starter solenoid wire in-line connector followed by the removal of both harness locators from the frame. Set the battery cable lower bracket aside by removing the nut and tightly screw it to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) for the 4.6L engine while it requires 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) for the 5.4L or 6.8L engines. The worker will first detach the transmission cooler line clip from the battery cable lower bracket and proceed to remove the starter solenoid terminal cover. The starter solenoid positive cable should be set aside by removing its nut while tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) when reinstalling. After unthreading the nut from the starter solenoid wire terminal position it aside while tightening the nut to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) upon installation. When reinstalling the starter solenoid positive cable terminal you should use torque to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) to secure its position. Remove the battery cable assembly before reusing the opposite steps to install it.

Begin by disconnecting the battery and removing it from the vehicle.

Disconnect the primary battery positive cable, remove the hold-down wedge, and take out the primary battery.

Remove three front harness locators along the right-hand frame rail and pull the harness through the front body mounting point.

Remove the battery cable assembly and reverse the removal procedure for reinstallation.

Remove the nut for the starter solenoid wire terminal and tighten it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) when reconnecting.

Take out the eight harness locators from the frame rail.
