Positive Cable

A service and repair operation on the battery cable requires disabling the vehicle electrical supply to avoid damage. The first step for battery cable service involves disconnecting the primary battery positive cable followed by removing both the hold-down wedge and primary battery from the system. The first step involves removing four bolts fastening the battery tray then extracting the tray itself. The technician should unfasten the ground nut securing the primary battery negative cable and remove its connecting eyelet terminal. Disembed the rubber cap from the starter motor relay B+ terminal as well as the eyelet terminals and their corresponding B+ terminal nut and enable terminal nut. Begin by removing the three harness locators which find placement between the primary battery tray mounts. Then proceed to disconnect both the starter motor and solenoid eyelet terminals by removing the B+ terminal nut and enabling and grounding nuts respectively. The removal of the engine splash shield begins by removing its three plastic retention clips. Pull the primary battery cable assembly by removing the nut from the transmission cooler line/primary battery cable bracket from below the vehicle through its engine support crossmember. Choose the locator from beneath the battery tray mounts followed by extracting the primary battery cable assembly through the engine area of the vehicle. During installation you should first reverse the removal procedure and pay close attention to the battery reconnect procedures to prevent any damage. During battery reconnection the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will learn its adaptive strategy causing abnormal drive behavior that needs at least 16 km (10 miles) of vehicle operation.

The battery cable requires servicing that starts with disabling electrical supply through proper execution of Dual Battery Disconnect-Gasoline procedures. To start the process disconnect the positive cable from the primary battery then remove the wedge while removing both the primary and auxiliary batteries. The next step requires uninstalling four bolts that secure the battery tray and extracting the tray from its position. Circulate the harness through the vacuum reservoir and frame by removing two harness locators from behind the vacuum reservoir and one in front of the right-hand frame rail. Climb behind the vacuum reservoir to remove three harness locators at various points of the right-hand frame rail and then draw the harness through the front body mounting point. To remove the engine compartment harness locator you should first remove its nut and detach its eyelet before extracting the harness from the engine compartment. To put in the harness one must proceed in the opposite order of removal. During battery reconnection expect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to relearn its adaptive strategy while the vehicle drives at least 16 km (10 miles) since abnormal drive symptoms potentially will appear.

Remove the hold-down wedge and the primary battery, followed by the auxiliary battery.

Reverse the removal procedure and ensure to follow the battery reconnect procedures accurately.
