Brake Booster

The first step when servicing the vacuum brake booster requires disconnection of the battery ground cable because the cable stays closed when the engine is off thus capturing engine vacuum to maintain several assisted brake applications. The next step requires removing the fluid level sensor connector while setting aside the speed control cable. The brake master cylinder needs its master nuts withdrawn along with disabling the check valve from the power brake booster while safely placing all parts away. Move the brake master cylinder with caution and set it beside the work area. Proceed by removing the instrument close-out panel by first removing the pushpins and then the stoplight switch retaining pin. Unfasten the stoplight switch and push rod from the brake pedal pin before removing the power brake booster retaining nuts and extracting the unit. You should place the brake switch so that its closed hole points away from the brake pedal arm and its open hole faces upward during brake booster installation and verify that the input rod is correctly aligned. The installation process will finish by following the exact opposite order of the removal steps.

The service and repair process starts with disconnecting the ground cable and fluid level sensor connector of the battery. First unfasten and relocate the speed control cable. After that detach the power brake booster check valve from its location. The next step includes taking off brake master cylinder nuts together with wiring harness bracket as you set everything aside. Begin the vacuum brake booster service by detaching the pushpins on the instrument dose-out panel before removing the stoplight switch retaining pin. Move the stoplight switch and booster push rod away from the brake pedal pin before taking out the power brake booster by removing its retaining nuts. Check that the brake switch faces upward while overlooking the closed lisle sway which extends from the brake pedal arm and that the input rod of the brake booster faces the correct direction when making the installation. The installation ends when you perform the exact steps in reverse order of removal.

During installation check that the brake switch has the closed hole pointed away from the brake pedal arm and its open hole oriented towards the top of the arm while ensuring that the brake booster input rod faces correctly. You should follow the opposite installation steps to finish your work.

Remove the pushpins securing the instrument close-out panel and then take off the panel.
