Battery Cable

Disconnection of the battery represents a necessary first step when performing battery cable service or repair. The vehicle must be placed in NEUTRAL position before you position it on a hoist. The protective cap on starter solenoid terminals should be removed before removing the cable nut that needs 6 Nm (53 lb-in) torque adjustment upon final installation. Organize this sequence by disconnecting the positive cable nut of the starter motor before installation where a 13 Nm torque (10 lb-ft) should be applied. First remove the starter motor ground cable terminal nut then disconnect both starter solenoid wire cable terminal and starter motor positive cable terminal before disconnecting the ground cable terminal nut. Install each fastener to a torque of 27 Nm (20 lb-ft). To set the battery cable engine ground terminal correctly position it aside after removing the bolt before securing the bolt with 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). Disconnect both the A/C compressor electrical connector and the oil pressure sending unit electrical connector system. Place the front cover bracket of the battery cable engine into proper position using 10 Nm (89 lb-in) tightness for installation. Position the battery cable frame bracket aside by removing its bolt and tighten it to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) when reinstalling it. Use tools to disconnect the two generator electrical connectors after you release the battery cable harness locators. Securely locate the protective cover before you remove the nut and relocate the generator B+ terminal aside while tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The battery junction box cover should be opened first and the BJB nut needs removal before tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) at reinstallation. You should disconnect the BJB terminal followed by removing the bolt to set the battery cable body ground terminal aside and secure it with 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque. The installation process begins with removing the two battery cable harness locators from the battery tray then disconnecting the battery cable harness electrical connector before taking off the battery cables. Follow the inverse process when reinstalling the parts.
