Negative Cable, Passenger Side

The first task before battery cable maintenance or repair requires disconnecting the battery. Tighten the negative battery cable to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) after installing it correctly by removing and placing the battery ground cable terminal to the side. After removing the bolt position the battery ground cable terminal to the side before tightening it to 62 Nm (46 lb-ft) during the reinstall procedure. First set aside the RH splash shield to reach the battery ground cable bolt then unbolt and move the cable terminal to the frame before tightening it to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) torques after reinstalling. When installing the auxiliary negative battery cable users must first move the LH splash shield for battey ground cable bolt removal followed by placing the auxiliary battery ground cable-to-frame terminal in position while torquing it to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Start by removing the starter solenoid terminal cover followed by removing its nut and placing the starter solenoid positive cable terminal to the side for reinstallation at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). When reinstalling the starter solenoid wire terminal you should tighten it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Installation requires torquing the nut from the stud along with the positive battery cable bracket to a tightness of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). The technician should remove the bolt and set aside the positive battery cable-to-frame bracket and should tighten it to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Place the attaching cable terminal(s) to the sides before tightening them to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). Reinstallation requires this step. The disconnect the starter relay electrical connector from its position. Detach 5 pin-type retainers and the upper radiator air deflector before removing the nut and setting the power distribution box (PDB) cable terminal aside according to a torque setting of 9 Nm (80 lb-in). After detaching the cable connectors begin removing the positive battery cable. Installation requires reversing all steps of removal while maintaining a minimum 15 mm (0.59 in) distance between the positive battery cable and splash shield bolt. Additionally, bend the P-clip over the frame when needed to check clearance.

Reverse the removal procedure for installation.

Detach and remove the underhood electric heater battery cable assembly.

Remove the bolt to position the battery ground cable eyelet aside, with a reinstallation torque of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
