Service technicians should begin the repair of battery cables for 2.5L engines by disconnecting the battery. You should first remove the air cleaner assembly and generator B+ terminal nut before tightening the nut to 12 Nm (106 lb-in) when reinstalling it. Initial step is to place the generator B+ terminal cable aside and then remove the generator harness retainer. Follow this service procedure by first removing the starter solenoid terminal cover then uninstalling the starter motor positive cable nut and re-tighten it to 12 Nm (106 lb-in) during installation. During installation tighten the starter solenoid wire nut to 5 Nm which equals 44 lb-in. The mechanic should set aside the starter motor terminals before unfastening the battery ground cable bolt that requires a torque setting of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when reinstalling. Disconnect the pin-type retainers located on the left rear and middle of the intake runners and front of the engine with the clip retainers also removed from the right and left front of the engine. Secure the left fenderwell body ground terminal bolt at 9 Nm (80 lb-in) during reinstallation. Open the Battery Junction Box (BJB) cover first then take off the BJB terminal nut while tightening it to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) during reinstall and set the terminal aside. First disconnect both the BJB electrical connector and battery cables retainer clips from the battery tray before taking off the battery cables. The process ends through following the reverse order of what was used for removal while reinstalling.
