Catalytic Converter

Service and repair of the catalytic converter starts with a neutral gear placement followed by hoisting the vehicle onto a rack. Mount the entirety of the muffler and tailpipe arrangement on safety slabs. Separate both the front muffler and tailpipe from their positions and also remove the hanger isolators of the extension pipes if present. The service technician must loosen the muffler and tailpipe Torca® clamp and extension pipe-to-catalytic converter Torca® clamp while using new fasteners with matching original part numbers during reinstallation and torqueing to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). Start by taking away the muffler and tailpipe and extension pipe from the catalytic converter only if you need to remove it. The electrical connection that powers the catalyst monitor should be detached. Unfasten the three bolts connecting the exhaust Y-pipe to the catalytic converter then discard them as you uninstall the exhaust Y-pipe-to-catalytic converter support bracket before tightening new bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Accept the exhaust Y-pipe after removing its catalytic converter together with the gasket. Follow the reverse order of installation to replace the catalytic converter while positioning the Torca® clamp according to the original orientation if a new one is used.
