    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Engine Front Timing Cover on Ford Thunderbird? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair of the engine front cover begins with draining the engine cooling system together with engine oil. The service starts by taking off the left-hand and right-hand valve covers and progresses to the engine cooling fan assembly and crankshaft pulley and crankshaft seal. It is essential to follow the required sequence of component removal when you take out the A/C compressor and coolant pump. Remove the engine front cover by disconnecting all three hoses between the lower radiator-to-thermostat housing and heater and power steering reservoir but drain the reservoir when needed. The Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch must be detached first with attention to one hidden bolt held by the power steering pressure hose which requires power steering pump removal for proper handling. Begin by positioning the power steering pump to the side and subsequently removing the power steering pump bracket together with the general bracket. Finish the procedure by removing the engine front cover after disconnecting the live wiring harness clips. Cleaning the sealing surfaces requires plastic scraping tools together with metal surface cleaner instead of metal scrapers or abrasive tools. Use new gaskets together with silicone gasket and sealant when performing installation steps at their designated areas. After setting the engine front cover on the cylinder block install the bolts loosely before tightening them at 5 Nm (44 inch lbs) followed by a second stage at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs). Proceed with generator and power steering pump bracket installation before you reattach each wiring harness clip and place the power steering pump while connecting the PSP switch and power steering reservoir hose along with the heater hose and lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing. Finally, install the stud bolt.
