Bumper Cover

The first step to service or repair the bumper cover is to tape the corners along with the area under the headlamps to secure the paint. After shifting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position you can mount it on the hoist. Your task includes removing the side 6 pin-type retainers (3 each) and 4 fender splash shield bolts (2 each). Reinstall these hardware components with torque specs set to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Start by loosening and then retighten the 4 air deflector bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) specifications while installation occurs. Disengage both of the optional pin-type retainers found in the middle of the front bumper cover and the single retainers attached to each outer side. Disconnect fog lamp electrical connectors only when they are present. The installation of the front bumper cover begins by extracting its two upper bolts followed by removing it while tightening both components to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque. Reattachment of the front bumper cover requires insertion into the bumper slides and simultaneous pressure towards the inner sides from the bottom headlamp corners until it clicks into place.

Start the repair operations for the rear bumper cover by setting tape at two locations: the corners and below the headlamps to protect against paint chipping. Service technicians should handle right-hand outer bumper cover mount on Mariner vehicles near the exhaust pipe by performing complete removal with extreme care to maintain its integrity. The installation process begins with removing two rear bumper cover-to-splash shield bolts which should be torqued to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Follow this procedure carefully for pin-type retainers on the outer rear bumper cover to avoid damaging the mounts since you must first take out both central and outer pin-type retainers then the six rear bumper cover screws. Follow by removing both liftgate alignment bumper bolts before disconnecting the two liftgate alignment bumpers, reinstall these components to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque. Disconnect the parking aid system electrical connector before starting the removal of the rear bumper cover when system equipment is available. Put the bumper cover back by aligning it properly into the bumper slides while performing the reverse steps of removal.

Remove 2 center front bumper cover pin-type retainers and 2 outer pin-type retainers, with 1 on each side.

Remove the 4 fender splash shield bolts, 2 on each side, and tighten them to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) upon reinstallation.
