When installing the driveshaft position it using the index marks while tightening the 4 driveshaft bolts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft). Position the center bearing and bracket onto the coupling shaft while supporting it before tightening the 2 center bearing bracket bolts to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). Accessibility to index marks allows you to position the driveshaft flange yoke properly with the pinion flange. Afterward, tighten the 4 driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts to 112 Nm (83 lb-ft).

The service and repair of the rear one-piece driveshaft begins by properly raising and supporting the vehicle. The initial position of the driveshaft flange yoke to the pinion flange establishes driveline balance while a correct output shaft rotation requires the alignment of driveshaft yoke to transmission tailshaft. The front service includes removing four bolts securing the driveshaft to the pinion flange before lowering the driveshaft. Scrape the extension housing seal for problems signs and replace it with a fresh one if needed. The end of the transmission output shaft must be marked with paint along with the front of the driveshaft. Use Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or -K or an equivalent product according to Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B for lubricating the slip-yoke spline. The proper driveshaft indexing technique uses conventional paint marks on both components but alternative indexing can be performed with index marks. Secure the driveshaft along its index marks using the driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts after proper alignment. The original bolts require coating with Threadlock E0AZ-19554-AA or an equivalent that fulfills WSK-M2G351-A5 Ford specification.

When installing the rear driveshaft section position the driveshaft flange yoke on the pinion flange at its index marks while securing the 4 driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts with 112 Nm (83 lb-ft) torque.

Slide it off the output shaft and inspect the extension housing seal for damage, replacing it if necessary.

Ensure the vehicle is in NEUTRAL and positioned on a hoist.

Position the driveshaft using the index-marks and install the four coupling shaft bolts before releasing the parking brake.

Clean grease deposits, dirt, and rust from the driveshaft yoke areas and all components, ensuring to wipe the bearing and rubber insulator of the driveshaft center bearing without immersing it in solvent.

Support the coupling shaft and remove the two center bearing bracket retaining bolts, ensuring the parking brake is locked.

Note and record the baseline speed, then with the transmission in gear, increase the vehicle speed to the maximum vibration level and record this speed as the baseline for vibration.
