Exhaust Manifold, Driver Side

The beginning of left-hand exhaust manifold service requires placing the vehicle in neutral position on a hoist. The degas bottle requires removal of its air cleaner housing followed by unfastening two bolts before setting it aside while tightening it to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) when reinstalling. The exhaust manifold to catalytic converter nuts need removal with a torque of 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) for installation. You should disconnect the brake tube retainer before removing the ten exhaust manifold nuts which need to be tightened to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) according to a precise sequence for reinstallation. The cleaning of sealing surfaces requires use of plastic scrapers and metal surface prep methods because metal tools and wire brushes cause surface damages resulting in leaks. Follow packaging instructions for suitable cleaning methods. As a next step you must eliminate the old exhaust manifold gaskets while reviewing the exhaust manifold prior to performing the installation steps in reverse order.

The nuts, the exhaust manifold, and the gasket, discarding the old gasket.

Remove the nuts securing the manifold.

Clean and inspect the exhaust manifold.

Disconnect the battery ground cable.

Take out the two bolts securing the degas bottle, set it aside, and tighten it to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) upon reinstallation.

Reverse the removal procedure for installation.

Remove the transmission filler tube and then the starter.

Take off the two bolts and the exhaust manifold heat shield, tightening the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) during reinstallation.

Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

Ensure the vehicle is in neutral and positioned on a hoist.

Remove the ten nuts and the exhaust manifold, ensuring to tighten them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) in the specified sequence during installation.
