Start the exhaust flexible pipe service and repair of 2.3L and 3.0L engines by first placing the vehicle into NEUTRAL and hoisting it. The procedure requires new fasteners alongside gaskets and clean flange faces which must get prepared before gasket installation. This creates effective sealing. The installation of the underbody shield requires removal of its six screws. Replace the 2 nuts which hold the exhaust flexible pipe to the catalytic converter with new ones and tighten them to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). When working on the 3.0L engine replace the two right-hand catalytic converter-to-exhaust flexible pipe nuts by installing new ones that require 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque. First remove the exhaust flexible pipe and throw away the gasket after unscrewing and discarding the 2 left-hand catalytic converter-to-exhaust flexible pipe nuts. Constantly tighten the passenger side nut before moving to the driver side nut and finally tightening the passenger side nut to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). When working with the 2.3L engine detach and discard the 2 catalytic converter manifold-to-exhaust flexible pipe nuts before extracting the exhaust flexible pipe and replacing both gaskets with new ones which need a 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque setting. The procedure will finish by following the reverse removal sequence while installing fresh gaskets and nuts. Begin the engine while inspecting for exhaust leak formation.

All servicing and repairing tasks for the exhaust flexible pipe must begin by positioning the vehicle on a hoist with NEUTRAL transmission selected. The exhaust flexible pipe requires removal of two nuts that connect it to the catalytic converter with the gasket to be discarded. The installation requires torquing the nuts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). It is necessary to discard both right-hand nuts that connect the catalytic converter to the exhaust flexible pipe on 3.0L engines before installing new nuts tightened to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). To begin left-hand side work eliminate the two nuts securing the catalytic converter with gasket to the exhaust flexible pipe before installing new components with torque at 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). The new installation process requires removal and discarding of two nuts between the 2.3L catalytic converter manifold and exhaust flexible pipe and gasket followed by proper assembly while tightening to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Completing the installation requires following the reverse steps of removal while adding new gaskets and nuts to all vehicles. After starting the engine one should conduct an inspection for exhaust leak signals.

Remove and discard the two nuts along with the gasket.
