    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Tail Pipe and Muffler on Gasoline Engines on Ford F-250 Super Duty? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to service the muffler and tailpipe of gasoline engines is to hoist the vehicle into the NEUTRAL position. Check for and properly loosen both connections between the catalytic converter and muffler or the exhaust intermediate pipe and muffler when they exist. First secure the muffler with the tailpipe before removing the muffler isolators. The two tailpipe isolator bracket bolts need removal from the frame before detaching the tailpipe isolators. You should take out the muffler together with the tailpipe after removing the vehicle from its position. You should first place the muffler and tailpipe inside its proper position to install the components. Secure the tailpipe isolator and bracket on the tailpipe by fastening its two frame bolts and tightening them to 20 Nm (177 lb-in). First connect the muffler isolators followed by installation of the catalytic converter or catalytic converter delete pipe or intermediate pipe into the muffler and tailpipe. Secure the button of the catalytic converter or delete pipe or intermediate pipe by pushing it completely into the button slot of the muffler and tailpipe while tightening the Torca(R) clamp between the muffler and tailpipe to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). An exhaust system aligning process should be performed when the exhaust system isolators remain outside of a zero load condition.
