Start service procedures on the muffler and tailpipe by putting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position on a hoist. After removing the 2 nuts and the clamp discard them before torquing the new clamp to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) when installing it. A suitable exhaust cutter should be used for disconnecting the muffler from the tailpipe. To ensure safety check the isolators for defects and replace them if necessary before removing the tailpipe by detaching its isolator. The process of checking and removing the isolators must be performed again for the muffler. New exhaust fasteners should be fitted before final tightening when working on complete installation. Draw the flanges together uniformly by following alternate fastener tightening according to specification before tightening the fasteners to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).

Production muffler and tailpipe assembly functions as single piece but the service assembly splits into two individual components. The removal and installation process should start by turning off electrical power to air suspension since unexpected spring inflation or deflation could move the vehicle during operations. Check the air suspension switch before the vehicle receiving support. Cut the muffler from the tailpipe by using suitable exhaust cutter following clamp removal. Begin by separating the insulator and then take out the tailpipe and then move to disconnecting the insulator followed by removing the muffler properly. Reinstallation of the air suspension demands following the removal process in its reverse order.

Before repairing or servicing the muffler and tailpipe operators need to disable air suspension electrical power because unexpected air spring movement could shift the vehicle. You must switch off the air suspension and move the vehicle to NEUTRAL mode on a hoist. Use a suitable exhaust cutter to perform the separation between the muffler and tailpipe after removing the clamp. Flexible elements are evaluated for damage or wear so that the process calls for a new insulator replacement before detaching the insulator to remove the tailpipe. Complete another inspection round on the muffler before installing fresh exhaust fasteners by restraining them until the component assembly phase. The final tightening of fasteners should reach 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.) after performing even distribution through alternate tensioning per specification. The use of oil-based or grease-based lubricants on the isolators should be avoided since these products will deteriorate the rubber material which could cause it to separate from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation.

Install new exhaust fasteners without tightening them until all components are assembled.

Tighten the nuts to 33 Nm (24 lb-ft).
