Universal service and repair of the fuel gauge sender and fuel pump module for both 106L (28 Gal) and 127L (33.5 Gal) fuel tanks begins with removing the fuel tank while keeping fuel-related areas free of smoking and electronic devices due to strong flammability of fuel mixtures. When reinstalling the fuel pump module cover on 127L fuel tanks use 9 Nm torque for the four cover nuts. The procedure starts with disconnecting the return fuel tube at the fuel pump module quick connect coupling then moving to disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor along with the vapor tube assembly before disconnecting the supply fuel tube quick connect coupling. The Fuel Tank Sender Unit Wrench should be used to detach the fuel pump lock ring. When handling the fuel pump assembly of the 106L fuel tank proceed with caution to avoid damaging the fuel level sensor while using a screwdriver to aid in the fuel pump removal from the mounting flange and discard the O-ring seal. The procedure for the 127L fuel tank includes the removal of the fuel pump assembly that requires noting the alignment tabs before discarding the O-ring seal. The process finishes when you reverse-installation steps that were used for removing it.
