Fuel Rail

Professional servicing of the fuel rail demands attention to safety rules because the system incorporates flammable vapor mixtures and retains high pressure conditions after engine shutdown. Any technician must first relieve fuel system pressure before disconnecting fuel lines or components because this step prevents personal injuries from occurring. Using the fuel rail requires proper caution to prevent damaging its structure while operating it as a lever. Repair operations require the protection and proper removal of all liquid and vapor fuel openings to prevent contamination at all times. Start the procedure by taking off the intake manifold piece before unplugging the coupling with spring locks and unscrewing the fuel supply tube bracket bolt which should be tightened at 8 Nm (71 lb-in) when reinstalling. The fuel injector electrical connectors need to be disconnected followed by disconnecting both the fuel pressure and temperature sensor electrical and vacuum connectors. The assembly consisting of fuel rail with injectors needs to be unbolted together after which torque the bolts to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) when reinstalling. The repair requires brand new fuel injector-to-intake manifold O-ring seals with fuel-resistance properties; these seals should be lubricated with engine oil while keeping old seals out of use for leak prevention. The installation process ends when technicians perform the opposite steps for removal.

Remove them as an assembly and tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) during installation.

Lubricate them with clean engine oil and reverse the removal procedure for reinstallation.

Care must be taken to avoid damaging the fuel rail if used as a leverage device.
