Power Steering Return Hose

Begin the power steering line/hose service and repair on 3.0L and 3.5L engine vehicles by placing the car on a hoist set to NEUTRAL mode. You need to remove power steering fluid from its reservoir using proper suction and then detach the battery and remove the tray while disconnecting power control module (PCM) connectors followed by removing the wiring harness retainer from the PCM bracket. The following procedure requires the lower cowl panel grille removal step. The power steering pressure line bracket-to-reservoir bolt requires removal on the 3.0L engine and the detached electrical harness retainer needs to be tightened to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) during reinstallation. Both power steering pressure line bolts connecting the bracket to the engine must be removed before detaching the electrical harness retainer and subsequently tightening it to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) for reinstallation. To remove the power steering pressure line bracket from the RH valve cover stud on the 3.5L engine you need to detach its electrical harness retainer and tighten it to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) when installed. Detaching the engine block heater harness from the power steering pressure line is a prerequisite before removing the power steering pressure line bracket-to-steering gear bolt which requires a torque of 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) during reinstallation. New bolts with different specifications need to replace the power steering pressure line-to-power steering pump banjo bolt and its two adjoining seals. The new bolt requires a torque of 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) when applying it during assembly. The power steering pressure line requires removal of its steering gear banjo bolt as well as the entire line while discarding both components. Install the new banjo bolt with a torque of 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.) during reassembly. A replacement of banjo bolts and seals remains essential when disconnecting the power steering pressure line from either the pump or the gear. Install the components while performing the reverse order of the removal process before filling the power steering system.

Remove the pressure line bracket-to-RH valve cover stud nut and detach the electrical harness retainer, tightening to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) upon reinstallation.
