    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Hose for the Steering Gear Pressure Line on All-Wheel Drive with 3.0L and 3.5L Engines on Mercury Milan? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair operations for the power steering line/hose between power steering pump and steering gear pressure line should begin with hoisting the vehicle to NEUTRAL position. First remove the battery and battery tray before disconnecting electrical connectors from the PCM and taking the wiring harness retainer from the PCM bracket to set the harness aside. The next procedure requires you to uninstall the lower cowl panel grille. The installation of the pressure line bracket-to-power steering fluid reservoir bolt requires 9 Nm (80 lb-in) torque setting which matches the reinstallation procedure. Additionally the electrical harness retainer from the pressure line bracket needs removal and proper retightening to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) for reinstallation on 3.0L engines. Removal of the two pressure line bracket-to-engine bolts requires detaching the electrical harness retainer before installation where you must tighten the fasteners to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). To remove the pressure line bracket-to-RH valve cover stud nut for the 3.5L engine, users must first detach the electric harness retainer before securely tightening it to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) during reinstallation. Users should detach their heater harness from the power steering pressure line before removing the steering gear bolt with a torque of 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) for installation. The installation process includes removal of the pressure line-to-power steering pump banjo bolt followed by waste of the bolt and both seals; reinstall this bolt by tightening it to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). The power steering pressure line requires removal before discarding both seals and bolt while the bolt torque should reach 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) during assembly. Changing the banjo bolts and seals becomes essential every time the power steering pressure line needs to be disconnected because fluid leak prevention demands new components. The installation process begins by performing the reverse actions of component placement followed by power steering system filling.
