    Q:
How to service and repair the front wheel bearing and wheel hub on F-250 and F-350 on Ford F-250 Super Duty? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before servicing and repairing front wheel bearing and wheel hub components on F-250 and F-350 vehicles start by placing them in NEUTRAL gear while on a hoist. Before moving on you must detach the two motor brake caliper anchor plate bolts then maintain the caliper assembly in place with mechanic wire to protect the brake hose. Take off the hub assembly grease cap and then remove both the cotter pin and wheel hub nut retainer before extracting the nut and flat washer. Discard the wheel hub nut and keep all parts. Examine the wheel spindle along with threads before performing cleaning operations or replacing all components like outer wheel bearing assembly, hub and brake disc assembly. A suitable bearing seal remover and slide hammer will extract the inner wheel bearing seal and bearing while protecting the wheel bearing cage from damage. When installing the components check that no lubricant exists on bearings or hub or spindle then inspect for damage because you must replace both bearing pieces and cups if damage occurs. A bearing cup driver tool will let you place the inner and outer bearing cups into the hub and a 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) feeler gauge will check for proper seating. Strike off any burrs or scratches from the spindle along with the seal bore using emery cloth before filling the hub space with wheel bearing grease up to bearing cup level. After packing wheel bearing assemblies with grease install the inner wheel bearing cone along with the roller assembly inside the cup while using a suitable seal replacer to install the wheel bearing hub seal. The hub and brake disc assembly needs continuous positioning on the wheel spindle to avoid damage before installing the spindle assembly. The outer wheel bearing cone and roller assembly should be placed along with the flat washer before nut tightening at this moment. Apply needed wheel bearing end play adjustment and place the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly together before installing the two bolts while torqueing them to 225 Nm (166 ft. lbs.).
