Brake Pads

Start the brake pad service and repair by checking the brake fluid level in the reservoir through the brake master cylinder filler cap removal process. Drain enough fluid until reaching half-filling the reservoir. After safely raising and supporting the vehicle you should detach the wheel structure along with its tire. The brake pads need replacement whenever the remaining thickness extends beyond the metal backing plate or rivets into the specified dimensions. Install new pads always as complete axle pairs while checking for contamination and wear damage. Penetration through the caliper sight hole should be avoided because it causes damage to pistons. The disc brake caliper should never hang freely from the brake hose because it needs proper support when performing removal. Lift the caliper off its anchor plate while unbolt the two bolts that secure the disc brake caliper at the front. It is essential to replace the front brake disc with a new one when measured thickness exceeds specifications. The disc brake caliper needs examination for waterproofing and boot inspections because any discovered issues will require full disassembly. The procedure requires removal of the pads and stainless steel slippers and pad thickness check followed by removing the slippers and die from the anchor plate. The inspection of front disc brake anchor plate assembly requires checking guide pin boots for damage and verifying that guide pins operate without binding or damage. Replace worn or damaged guide pins while lubricating them with Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound D7Z-19A331-A or an equivalent product that meets Ford specification ESE-M1CI71-A. New pad installation requires keeping the pad lining material clean from grease, oil, brake fluid and other contaminants while using all hardware provided by the pad and spring kits. Fit new stainless steel slippers which should face away from the brake disc before adding the pads. The caliper pistons should be compressed using a wood block or used pad to protect their pistons and boots. Users should place the caliper into position while starting from the top bolt before they add the wheel with its tire. Complete the brake master cylinder reservoir operation by filling it with clean High Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB or an equivalent DOT 3 fluid that meets Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A and reinstall the brake master cylinder filler cap. Finally, inspect the brake operation.

Raise and support the vehicle, then remove the wheel and tire assembly.

Carefully install the disc brake caliper, tightening the top bolt first.

Reinstall the brake master cylinder filler cap and inspect the brake operation.
