Beginning the repair and servicing of the automatic transmission shift levers requires the removal of the shift lever trim ring through the use of an appropriate tool. First lift the armrest before taking out the center console trim cover with the same tool. Beginning by removing the two fasteners, the power outlet trim cover should be set aside. The shift lever cable end needs detachment from the shift lever before using a tool to unfasten both tabs which will let you remove the shift lever cable from the shift lever housing. Use a suitable tool to disconnect the shift lever electrical connector while you remove the securing bolts which maintain the shift lever. Install the shift lever by first positioning it and then using bolts which should be tightened to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs). Reposition the shift lever electrical connector followed by placing the shift lever cable inside the housing. Target the REVERSE position on the shift lever while you disconnect the cable end from the manual lever and connect it to the shift lever itself. Move to DRIVE position through the shift lever before you put back the power outlet trim cover and fasten its two screws in place. After securing the shift lever trim ring, you should install the center console trim cover. You should position the manual lever on the DRIVE setting before you rotate it clockwise until it stops before moving it counterclockwise by one detent. To initialize the adjuster, users must push the locking tab aside before guiding the cable end toward the manual lever position where it needs to attach when the locking tab is out of the way. Use your finger to return the release tab for adjuster lock insertion. The vehicle testing should confirm its ability to start only when placed in PARK and NEUTRAL positions, and the reverse lamps should activate when shifted into REVERSE.
