    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Shift Cable on Ford Edge? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process of servicing and repairing the selector lever cable starts with disconnecting three components: mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector and wiring harness fastener from the air cleaner assembly and brake booster vacuum hose and engine breather from the air cleaner assembly. To start service and repair of the selector lever cable you must first remove the air cleaner assembly bracket bolt then unscrew the air cleaner outlet pipe clamp by the throttle body before removing the assembly and outlet pipe. Use suitable tools to detach first the selector lever trim ring then release the two cable tabs from the bracket. Finally, remove the cable from its mount. Users must lift the armrest and remove the center console trim cover with a suitable tool before taking out the two fasteners to set aside the power outlet trim cover. The selector lever cable end must be detached from the selector lever before releasing its two tabs to remove the cable from the selector lever housing and then removing the center console side cover. Use a suitable tool to remove the selector lever cable while you take out the two nuts from the grommet. Installation begins with positioning the selector lever cable together with the grommet before tightening the two nuts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs) specifications. Then install the center console side cover and the selector lever cable in the selector lever housing. When the selector lever is set to REVERSE position you should insert the cable end to the selector lever before moving the selector lever to DRIVE. Install the power outlet trim cover by using the two fasteners while adding the center console trim cover and attaching the selector lever trim ring. Position the manual lever to DRIVE and rotate the selector lever clockwise until it stops then conduct a backward rotation of one detent. Open the adjuster by moving the locking tab past its position while aligning the cable end to the manual lever before securing the selector lever cable end and terminating the operation with the release tab slide. After positioning the air cleaner assembly you must install the bolt at 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs). Follow these steps when finishing the installation: sunstrictly tighten the air cleaner outlet pipe clamp at the throttle body to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs), reattach the engine breather and brake booster vacuum hose to the air cleaner assembly and determine the MAF sensor electrical connector with its fastener. The vehicle must engage transmission only in the PARK and NEUTRAL positions while reverse lamps show illumination when shifting to reverse gear.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Shift Cable on Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for fixing the selector lever cable begins by detaching the mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector and air cleaner wiring fastener before removing the brake booster vacuum hose and the engine breather from their air cleaner assembly locations. First detach the air cleaner assembly bracket bolt before planning the air cleaner outlet pipe clamp near the throttle body to remove the air cleaner assembly with its outlet pipe. Current the selector lever cable end free from the manual control lever by removing its two attachment tabs which disconnects it from the bracket allowing placement on the side. The required tool needs to be used when removing trim rings on MKX models. First pull up the armrest followed by removing the center console trim cover using an appropriate tool to find two fasteners that need removal before putting the power outlet trim cover to the side. Start by disconnecting the selector lever cable end from the selector lever and removing the cable from its housing through the release of two tabs. After that remove the center console side cover. You should remove the two nuts from the grommet before guiding the selector lever cable through the floor to extract it from the passenger compartment. The selector lever cable needs installation along with grommet tightening of two nuts to a torque value of 10 Nm (89 lb-in) for center console side cover replacement. Lock the selector lever cable locking tabs and attach its end to the ball stud while pressing the cable firmly into the bracket until the cable clicks. Press down on the cable while checking if it remains locked before installing the cable inside the selector lever housing. Move the selector lever into REVERSE position while installing the cable end onto it before changing the position to DRIVE. Insert the center console trim cover after reinstalling the power outlet trim cover with its two fasteners. Vehicle models designated as MKX require you to install the selector lever trim ring as part of the installation process. First position the selector lever cable bracket after which you should install three bolts at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque setting before locating the selector lever cable in the bracket. The manual control lever needs to be in DRIVE mode to start rotating it clockwise until it stops before moving it counterclockwise by one detent. Unclip the adjuster by pulling the latch open then pushing the lock tab to unlock the housing before you join the selector lever cable end with the manual control lever. First lock the adjuster by pushing its release tab back which will allow connecting the selector lever cable to the manual control lever before placing the air cleaner assembly into position and securing it with a bolt tightened to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft). The air cleaner outlet pipe needs a 5 Nm (44 lb-in) clamp before reconnecting engine breather and brake booster vacuum hoses to the air cleaner assembly and finally connecting the MAF sensor electrical connector and securing its electrical harness fastener. Check that the vehicle starts and operates in PARK and NEUTRAL modes before the reverse lamps automatically activate when shifting to REVERSE.
