    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Shifter Mechanism on Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to repair the selector lever mechanism involves removing the instrument panel lower finish panel after which one must unscrew the steering column lower shroud. Services on the steering column upper shroud along with the instrument panel cluster-to-shroud trim need to be performed. The instrument panel cluster trim requires removal of screws from both right-hand and left-hand locations before extracting the trim from the panel. Remove the IP cluster trim first by disconnecting both the temperature sensor connector and dimmer switch electrical connector from their respective places. The first step includes unscrewing the upper IP cluster screws together with the right-hand and left-hand lower IP cluster screws for placing the IP cluster to the side. Drain the selector lever cable before removing the locking pin as well as park lock cable (PLC) and discard the locking pin when done. You must first disconnect the transmission control switch electrical connector along with its harness strap from its retaining clips before removing the selector lever bolt and the selector lever itself. The procedure requires users to disconnect the BSIA electrical connector after removing the selector lever mechanism lower bolt and securing the upper bolts before extractor the selector lever mechanism. Place the BSIA after pulling its override button while guiding the selector lever tab within the opening and fastening it using a screw and clip. After installing the BSIA to the selector lever mechanism you should mount the mechanism into the vehicle where you must apply 6 Nm (53 lb-in) torque when securing the upper bolts while connecting the BSIA electrical connector. Secure the selector lever mechanism lower bolt making sure it reaches 6 Nm (53 lb-in) torque specification. After that tighten the selector lever to achieve 18 Nm (13 lb-ft). Connect the PLC electrical chain to the retaining hooks after which the technician installs a fresh locking pin. Install the IP cluster with proper positioning then fasten first the left-hand and right-hand lower IP cluster screws before using the upper IP cluster screws. Reinstall the selector lever cable and position the IP cluster. Reinstall the IP cluster trim and join the dimmer switch electrical connection. In case of equipment presence, reconnect the in-vehicle temperature sensor connector. Accomplish the installation of the left-hand and right-hand IP cluster trim screws before putting the IP cluster-to-shroud trim and steering column upper shroud in place. Continue with the addition of the steering column lower shroud and instrument panel lower finish panel.

    Q:
How to Service the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers for the Column Shift on Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
Starting the repair of the column shift automatic transmission shift levers requires you to disconnect the lower steering column shroud through screw removal followed by detachment of the upper steering column shroud. Start by disconnecting the electrical connector and the harness while removing them from retaining clips. The automatic transmission shift lever bolt needs removal but must receive proper tightening to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft) for installation. The replacement of the automatic transmission shift levers requires following the initial removal steps in reverse order.
