Shift Control Cable

Begin repair or servicing of the floor shift shift cable and bracket when the vehicle sits in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. When maintaining nameplates on Funkmaster Flex vehicles start by lifting slowly the lower right corner of the plate that displays its serial number to reach the tape and cut it with piano wire. The service for Expedition models requires removal of PRNDL trim together with console tray and cup holder insert followed by console upper trim screw. You must disconnect the shift cable from both ball stud and housing of the selector lever arm. It is necessary to begin with the Navigator models where technicians must remove selector lever trim plates along with floor console upper panels and disconnect shift cables from both selector lever arm ball stud and housing components. The installation procedure requires removal of the shift cable together with the rubber grommet while also taking out any present heat shield in case of vehicle equipment. Prevent any damage by never putting pressure on the shift cable between the manual control lever and the shift cable bracket. Contact the manual control lever ball stud by lifting the locking tab before you detach the shift cable from the ball stud. Following that you must remove the bracket bolts and shift cable clip which are situated on the transmission. Mount the shift cable bracket onto the transmission before fastening its bolts with torque set at 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Install the shift cable by putting it around the ball stud on manual control lever while listening for an audible snap of the cable in place. Also lock the shift cable tabs when finished. The shift cable lock tab needs to be locked in place before installing or adding the required heat shield. Affix the shift cable to the housing and arm ball stud while listening for correct installation clicks since there should be two audible clicks during installation. The final step includes returning both the Expedition sequence of console upper trim, PRNDL trim, console tray, and cup holder insert and the Navigator sequence of center console LH kick panel and floor console upper panel. The name plate of Funkmaster Flex vehicles requires tape removal followed by double-sided tape application before returning it to the floor console finish panel position. Adjust the shift cable according to requirement.

Move the locking tab up to disconnect the cable.

Adjust the selector lever cable as needed.

Carefully lift the locking tab to disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column, the selector lever arm ball stud, and the steering column bracket.

Ensure the vehicle is in NEUTRAL and positioned on a hoist.

Disconnect it from the selector lever, selector lever arm ball stud, and selector lever housing.
